Postings and What's Up for Friday

So today there was a lot of good talk over the Diaz article. Many of you agreed with what was argued to a certain extent (whatever applied), and some of you, we learned, felt high school did prepare you for college in general and for FYC (first year composition).

Here is a link to the reasoning you guys came up with; remember, this list will help you guys realize you are not alone in class or on campus (Diaz reason number 7). Keep these ideas in mind as you read and write in this course and others, because remember, high school is over; you are in college and now is the time to make the changes you need to prepare yourselves for the rest of your academic and future careers. You are here because you want to be here. We analyzed the 'don'ts' when it comes to college readiness and writing, so now it is time to focus on the 'do's'.

For class Friday, read the Haas and Flowers article and write a paragraph or two over what you think the article is about. I will start a discussion over what you guys wrote, so bring a paper copy to class with you for lecture. I may collect these, so make sure you read and are able to produce a paragraph or two over what you think the authors are trying to argue/say.

Remember to check out the Handouts folder for critical thinking and reading tips that may help you get through some of the tougher reads this semester. Also, don't forget about the Writing Center and the possible 5 points (see syllabus). They can help you with critical thinking and reading strategies and getting through the articles.

  2. Post these to drive sometime this weekend under the Stage 2 folder if you didn't type it out yet, but bring a copy of your work to class. I will collect/check to make sure everyone read and wrote.
