I agree when the author is saying that our first draft is not going to be what we wanted. In page 22-23 "The first draft......half pages" sounds a really good idea to me because sometimes you might not have no idea on what to write but when you begin to write all your ideas about the topic through all that mess you will find the perfect beginning, middle or end. All this reading is saying is that you dont have to be perfect to be a writer like she would also begin with the first draft when she had a job at a magazine. She said that even though she had been working for alot of time she wasnt a perfect writer.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with what this article has to say. We think that our first page written has to be a wonderful novel when really it's just the first step in writing. I particularly liked what the author was say on Page 21 "People tend to.......court reporter." This shows what us readers see professionals as. We think that everyone writes amazingly on their first draft when in reality, every one takes the same takes as we do. The topic "Perfectionism" is what i can relate to the most. I care too much about how my article can be perfect, trying to fix every little thing in a first draft but what i don't seem to understand is a first draft is basically my ideas and planning, not so much perfection. This article is explaining how everyone looks at their first draft and almost always thinks it's not good enough, but after all, it is only the first draft!
ReplyDeleteI agree with this article because most of the people think that their writing has to be perfect and that they have to know what they are doing since the first page. Not even the people that have experience writing books or articles write perfect paper. The author says on page 22 "Very few writers really know what they are doing until they have done."which shows that not even the people that have experience writing books or articles write perfect paper. The first writting does not have to be perfect because nothing is perfect in this world.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this article because we have the mentality that the first page has to be perfect, not realizing it's just the first draft. On page 22, "the right words and sentences just do not come pouring out like ticker tape most of the time". This shows that it takes time to write. Your writing doesn't automatically come out and you wrote the best article ever. To write the best article it starts by writing your first draft. I can relate to "Perfectionism" because I always wanted my first draft to sound amazing. I would make lots of changes and made sure it sounded correct. Now, knowing that the first draft doesn't have to be perfect; it's just the way of organizing your ideas and thoughts. In this article, the author is trying to say is life isn't perfect so why should your first draft be.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what this article is saying, because it explain that we don´t have to be perfects to be a writer. I specially like what the author says on page 25 ´´Almost all good writing......down on paper´´ because like the author said we need to write something anything down on paper. It is important to write down all our ideas about our topic on paper so later on we can organize them, that would be a very good technique . We would not start writing perfectly but we need to start. The first draft would be the down draft because we can fix it and improve it, the first draft is basically a bounch of ideas that need to be organize to create a good write.
ReplyDeleteBreaking away from everyone else's first words, I love this article! This has to be my favorite one yet! I agree with what this author is saying, especially with the section about perfectionism. I have a hard time writing multiple drafts, because I have this ideal in my head that is has to be perfect (or as close to it) the first time. On page 32 where the author quotes Vonnegut(?), that is probably my favorite sentence, mainly because I can relate to that the most. Today's society prefers everything to be right the first time, this article basically proves that no, it doesn't. Actually, messing up is a GOOD thing, which most people don't believe. It allows room for fixing and creativeness.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this article, because being a writer doesn't mean you need to be perfect. I relate on (heading)"Perfectionism," when I write I need to do it right because if I don't, I feel I 'm going to get a very bad grade and I wouldn't want that. Therefore, I would give up and just do one draft. But I would keep in mind that life isn't perfect everyone does mistakes. (:
ReplyDeleteI agree with the author point of view that is trying to say to us the readers. He is trying to say that even to proffessional writers , writing is not easy. I like what the author says in page 22 "Very few writers know what they are doing until they've done it". This make me feel very confortable because when I readed this I feel that I was not the only one that dosen't know how to start and how to finish. Also that it is very hard to done a draft at the first time, this also give me more confidence at the time of writing.
ReplyDeleteI strongly agree with this article because I realize that the author is right when she says that our first page or our draft doesnt has to be perfect, like she says in page 22 "The first draft is the child's draft, where you let it all pour out and then let it romp all over the place" So we dont have to write a perfect draft. What we have to do is write down all our ideas and then organize those ideas on paper.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this article, this article really lets us know that writing is not perfect and it is not meant to be. Writing starts with random thoughts that eventually transform into a story. In high school I had this idea that my first draft had to be PERFECT, and I think I felt that way because teacher would push us to make our first draft perfect. But in all reality our fist draft is meant to be crappy it's only the outline of our essay or story. I like how he said that no writer wakes up full of talent, they struggle as well. I made a connection with that because in the end nobody is perfect.
ReplyDeleteI very much agree from the author perceptive that no first draft has to be perfect, you have to learn from it and evolutinize it to make the story more interesting and clearer than your first draft. That means your learning from experiences.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this article. I can relate to the heading 'Perfectionism' (specifically pg. 28; second paragraph) as well as when the author talked about creating a shitty first draft. I felt that the first draft would have to be perfect and detailed. The way the author explained helped me understand that first drafts are meant to be 'shitty' and not perfect.
ReplyDeletePerfectionism is the voice of the opressor, the enemyof the people. It will keep you cramped and insane your whole life..." pg 28 This infers that perfectionism has the power to change a person and make them become something they do not want to be.
ReplyDeleteI like the article. It show us that not everyone story can be perfect, even the best of writers have to do drafts and development to their writing to make it perfect. Maybe you start your story get some ideas from things around you and write a better story. Like in the article it said " Finally I would pick up a one-inch picture frame,...."pg24. It tells us that you can get answers and help in your writing by just liking at random pictures, you never know when a great idea will pop out for you, ready to write about. Basically we are not perfect. It takes time to develop something good, you need to go through different steps until you end up with a good story.
ReplyDeletei agree with article because to be honest i thought for be a good writer you had to be born with it but this article showed me than even the best writers sometimes struggle and they have to keep doing draft until they like one and even then i am sure after they published their books they are still thinking on things they could have improve " perfectionism is the voice of the oppressor the enemy of the people".This article helped me realize that its good to make bad first draft because they will help you make a good final draft
ReplyDeletei agree with the article because we all don't just start as great writers, we develop the skill through doing first, second and more drafts until we get the final paper and we see a good job. like the article says that professional writers just don't sit and do a perfect job they also do drafts just like us.
ReplyDeletei agree with every single bit of this article. everyone starts somewhere, some start better off than others do. but that doesn't mean that we should all just stop writing. every famous author out there has shitty first drafts of their own,it just takes time to perfect it
ReplyDeletei agree with everyone just because someone writes a 5 page essay for example and someone just writes 3 pages doesnt mean that you have to stop writing. everyone are equal, yes people are faster than others in writing but dont feel bad, you just keep trying more and more of your efford and you will see you will get better.
