Writing Discussion for 1025/13

Before Sunday at midnight, everyone should choose a handout from the following Drive link and make a connection to any of the 1-7 readings.

https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B53NUyxkRNkNWFEzN25ZZDFJSmc&usp=sharing

Do not use the same pair as your peers. For your response, answer the following questions:

1. Which handout did I choose?
2. Which reading did I choose?
3. What connection can be made between the two? (This is the main question for this discussion post, so try to focus on critically thinking about what both documents convey.)
4. Does the handout support the reading or not, and why?

ALSO- Please keep posting updated version of your projects in your Stage 3 Drive folders. Some of you have already uploaded one or two, which is great. I want everyone to post up an image of where you are at with your projects this weekend, so I can start talking to each of you individually either via E-mail or when we meet again.

Any questions, just E-mail. ;-)

    - Developing an Introduction-The Top-Down Model
    2. Which reading did I choose?
    - "Seven Ways High School Prepares You for Failure" - Kelsey Diaz
    3. What connection can be made between the two?
    - I can connect these two because the handout it explains on how many sentences does an introduction need. In the reading it explains how the 5-paragraphs Essay contains an introduction, 3 bodies, and a conclusion. It doesn't matter how much you write, you don't always need to write a certain way. The connection is you can write the introduction as long as you want it doesn't need to be certain sentences long.
4.Does this handout support the reading or not, and why?
    - Yes, this handout supports the reading because you can write your introduction as long as you want. Your introduction needs to do is explain the main idea.

  9. 1. Which handout did I choose? Printable Handouts: Writing a Thesis Statement
    2. Which reading did I choose? Reading 6
    3. What connection can be made between the two? (This is the main question for this discussion post, so try to focus on critically thinking about what both documents convey.) I decided to do these two choose of reading and handout because they both talk about writing and the process of it. As in the thesis handout it talks about methods of having a good paper and the reading of Bird by Bird the article is talking about shitty drafts of writing. They’re pros and cons about writing so I choose these two to have different preservatives over the start of the writing and the overall.
    4. Does the handout support the reading or not, and why? Somewhat, one just is more helpful in what you should do for your writing as for starting and it and the other readings saying it’s okay to mess up.

  10. 1) Which handout did I choose? To Summarize
    2) Which reading did I choose? Reading 5b
    3) What connection can be made between the two? I decided to choose this reading because it shows how the impact of feedback can have on someones summary's. Maybe at first we might start with a simple draft but this later can become a very well established final draft and that was because of the feedback we got. The feedback that was given to us can also help us to summarize something/ get our ideas together.
    4) Does the handout support the reading or not, and why? I think it somehow does because like i said the peer feedback that we obtain can help us to summarize.

-A main connection that can be made between the two, is that both are meant to help students. The reading for giving and receiving feedback, and the handout for what to focus on.
    4. Does the handout support the reading or not, and why?
-Yes and no. While they are both geared towards helping students, the handout does not exactly support it, as the article is lengthy.

-Is the for the lab report it take time to develop a conclusion and explaining your results. You have to relate to your lab in different ways to make a good report. What I think is that the reading 6 tells us about how first drafts are never perfect, that also goes to lap reports. Takes time to develop a good lap report.
    4. Does the handout support the reading or not, and why?
Well yes because the lab report handout shows you how to make a good lab report and it might take more than one draft/lab report to make a good one. They both support each other in a different way.
